Youth Programming at Adath Israel

For more information please contact Mollie Newman
Youth and Family Programs, at (513) 792-5082 ext. 103

The Adath Israel Congregation Youth Department offers programs for families and their children from birth through twelfth grade and beyond.  The programs are grounded in the principles of Conservative Judaism and include the following topics: Tzedakah, Israel, Conservative Jewish practice, tefillah and community.  The Youth Department is run in conjunction with United Synagogue Youth, which is an international Conservative Jewish Youth organization.  The following programs are offered by the Youth Department.

Family Education Programming:

Throughout the year, families are invited to attend programs that will allow them to learn, experience and socialize together.  Programs are held occasionally throughout the year. They may be presented as a whole synagogue event, whole school event, or in an individual classroom.

Jewish Stars, Grades K, 1 & 2:

Our youngest School age Youth Group is Jewish Stars.  Children meet together once a month for programs in the synagogue and around Cincinnati.  This youngest group allows students to come together  to form and strengthen their ties with each other while experiencing the fun and creative aspects of Conservative Judaism.

Atid, Grades 3, 4 & 5:

Students come together once a month for programs they have chosen.  Most of the programs are scheduled for Sundays at noon.  Already planned for this year is tubing at Perfect North, late nights in the Adath Israel Youth Lounge and trips to different sites in Cincinnati.

Kadima, Grades 6, 7 & 8

Kadima programs are held twice a month and meet both in and out of Adath Israel.  These programs are chosen
by participants of Kadima. Once a year, Kadima participates in Kadima Kinnus, a weekend long convention through CRUSY (the Central Region of United Synagogue Youth)   Participation in Kadima allows students to continue strengthening their ties with each other, make new Jewish friends and experience Judaism in a “hands on”, fun and exciting way.

USY, Grades 9, 10, 11 & 12

Ninth to 12th graders are involved in United Synagogue Youth (USY).  USY is run by an elected board of students from the synagogue.  There are many opportunities for students to get involved and help to plan and run different aspects of the chapter while developing strong leadership skills.  Participation in USY allows students to do Tzedakah, learn about Israel, experience Jewish holidays, get involved in the synagogue and socialize with other Jewish teens.  Throughout the year, students participate in CRUSY (the Central Region United Synagogue Youth) conventions, which take place throughout the Midwest.

Mazel Tots:

Our youngest members of Adath Israel Congregation invite you to join in with Mazel Tots. This group is for infants and toddlers and pre-schoolers and their parents to get together once a month at the Synagogue. They meet from 9:30-10:45am Sunday mornings beginning with a breakfast and time to socialize. Activities vary depending on the month. They will have music, listen to books being read, talk about the holidays and just hang out. It will be a very relaxed, casual atmosphere so it is always ok to feed babies, let them sleep in strollers or car seats, cry or do whatever babies like to do. For more information, or to find out when our next meeting is, contact Mollie Newman, Coordinator of Youth and Family Programs at 513-792-5082 x 103 or youth@adath-israel.org.
